About Us
Moredun Scientific Ltd (MSL) is the commercial arm of the Moredun Foundation,
formerly known as The Animal Diseases Research Association (ADRA), which came
into being in March 1920 at a meeting attended by farmers who were deeply concerned
about livestock health. The reason for its establishment, which is still relevant
today, was to assist in “promoting research concerning disease of farm
livestock and of other animals whose health affects that of farm livestock”.
In 1926 the Moredun Research Institute (MRI) was established in Glimerton, Edinburgh. As part of Moredun’s development of Pentlands Science Park (PSP), the Company relocated in July 1995 and since that date has played a major role in the development of PSP as a thriving scientific community providing an ideal location for research and commercial groups alike.
Any profit generated by MSL, not retained for re-investment, is transferred on an annual basis to the Moredun Foundation, which in turn uses the funds to help support the research programme of MRI.
Contract research services to the animal health industry have traditionally constituted MSL’s main business. Our ability to combine our established expertise in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Clinical Veterinary Practice (GCPv) quality systems with the pioneering scientific work being conducted at MRI provide a uniqueness which is key to our future development.
